Movie Club: City Lights

Wednesday, May 07, 2025

07:30 PM - 09:30 PM

Newtown Theatre

120 North State Street, Newtown, PA, USA

The historic Newtown Theatre will hold its next Movie Club in April. Modeled after a book club, this series will include the screening of a different movie each month followed by audience discussion.

The next film in the series will be 1931's "City Lights" on Wednesday, May 7.

“City Lights” was produced, directed and stared Charlie Chaplin. While the film has no audible dialog, it was released with a synchronized musical score. The story follows the misadventures of Chaplin’s Tramp as he falls in love with a blind girl and develops a turbulent friendship with an alcoholic millionaire. Today, many critics consider it not only the highest accomplishment of Chaplin's career, but one of the greatest films of all time.

Each Movie Club film will be introduced by Joe Amodei, President/CEO of Virgil Films & Entertainment. After the movie, Amodei and various special guests will discuss the film with participation from the audience.
