07:30 PM - 09:00 PM
Newtown Theatre
120 North State Street, Newtown, PA, USA
To celebrate Earth Day, the historic Newtown Theatre will screen “The Extraordinary Caterpillar” on April 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Prior to the film, attendees can play environmental trivia and win native plants. Following the film, a panel of experts will discuss the film and take questions.
Co-hosts for this special film screening include Newtown Borough Environmental Advisory Council, Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, Ginos Nursery, My Backyard at Nectars, and Black Shed.
“The Extraordinary Caterpillar” follows scientists and community activists as they peek into the dazzling world of nature’s tiniest superheroes. As the engine of food webs, caterpillars feed birds, support pollinators and keep ecosystems thriving. Native plants are critical to the caterpillar’s survival.
Homegrown National Park is the U.S. organizer of the impact campaign for “The Extraordinary Caterpillar.” The film features co-founder Dr. Doug Tallamy and shines a spotlight on the critical—but often overlooked—role caterpillars play in biodiversity.
Following the movie, Mary Anne Borge, editor of Butterfly Gardener, Santino Lauricella, education manager at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve, and Rosalind Doremus, owner of My Backyard at Nectars in Titusville, NJ, will be available to take questions and share their knowledge of native plants and their importance to caterpillars and other critters.
